As editor of the monthly VOCAL News and Eye on IYC, I was responsible for communicating the news of the program to AmeriCorps members, LVI board members, partner organizations, and funders of the program. The newsletters were created using Microsoft Word and are available as PDFs.
VOCAL is an acronym that stands for Volunteer Outreach for Community Action in Literacy. It is an AmeriCorps project that is organized and run by Literacy Volunteers of Illinois, located in Chicago, Illinois. The AmeriCorps project consisted of thirty full- and part-time AmeriCorps members who worked to increase the adult literacy rate throughout Chicago.
Literacy Volunteers of Illinois partnered with community organizations to place AmeriCorps members at their sites, where the members worked with community members to increase their literacy skills. AmeriCorps members worked with adult basic education learners as well as English as a second language students.
Below are samples of two newsletters I produced.
